How It Works

Canister stoves (isobutane) use about 7g/min and are most efficient. Alcohol stoves use about 15g/min but are lighter and simpler. White gas (10g/min) works better in cold weather. Rule of thumb: bring 25g of canister fuel per meal. A standard 8oz (227g) canister lasts about 30 boils.
